Hotel in the Villnöss Valley: minutes from the forest spa – Bad Froy
Our family has been writing the history of our hotel in the Eisack Valley since 1888 and is also closely connected to that of Bad Froy. Once a well-known spa set within a forest, its origins date back to an old legend associated with St Theobald, which says: ‘He, a sick hermit, bathed in the water and was healed...’ The chapel of St Theobald was built in his honour. From 1860 to 1980, many guests from near and far came to the spa in search of relaxation. Some of them visited the historic Gnollhof, still a popular hotel in the Villnöss Valley today, for coffee and homemade cake. Today, Bad Froy is a youth centre.
Gufidaun, the village on seven hills
Our hotel in the Villnöss Valley is located in the sunny village of Gufidaun. Its location is characteristic for the village near Klausen with its almost 500 inhabitants. Various hilltops have shaped the area, giving it the nickname ‘The village on seven hills.’ As early as 4,000 years ago, the Bavarians and the Romans settled this area. From 1027 onwards, Gufidaun was the property of the bishops of Bolzano, Brixen, and Trento, and from 1220, Gufidaun was the judicial seat of the Counts of Thun and Selva-Trostburg. Today, the residences of Coburg and Castle Summersberg are still very well preserved.
